Your right to choose.

An insurer cannot require your vehicle to be repaired at a specific shop.

They can recommend a shop — only if you ask, and only after notifying you in writing of your right to choose.

If you choose your own shop, the insurer must pay the reasonable cost to repair your vehicle in a workmanlike manner.

Common Questions

Insurance FAQs.

  • Can my insurer require me to use their shop?

No. Under California Insurance Code §758.5 you have the right to choose any repair facility. Your insurer must pay the reasonable cost to repair your vehicle at your chosen shop.

  • What is a Direct Repair Provider (DRP)?

A DRP is a shop with a vetted relationship with an insurance carrier. Your repair can begin without waiting for an outside adjuster — speeding up the whole process.

  • Will all of my repairs be covered?

Repairs from the current accident are covered. Pre-existing damage isn't, but we can write a separate estimate for any extra work while we have the vehicle.

  • Do I need more than one estimate?

Some insurers ask for it. If yours does, we're happy to provide one for free.
